Throwback Thursday is here! This week, the ISD would like to travel back in time for the history of Hartley.
The Hartley Outdoor Education Center in Michigan has a long and notable history, beginning with the establishment of the Hartley Nature Camp in 1948 by Peter Hartley. In 1969, the Saginaw Intermediate School District (SISD) acquired the camp, and in 1975, it officially became the Hartley Outdoor Education Center, located on the site of Coal Mine No. 8. A significant addition came in 1978, when the Schroeder Cabin, originally built in 1896 in Freeland, Michigan, was moved to the center. In 2017, the center expanded its dormitories to modernize facilities and increase capacity. Today, the Hartley Outdoor Education Center spans over 300 acres, offering a variety of programs, including day trips and overnight stays, designed to foster environmental respect, academic growth, social development, and an appreciation for cultural history. #ThrowbackThursday
